Nowa Renoma presented in the form of an artistic collage
Renoma’s modernist style, combined with art deco, is an indispensable element of the Wrocław landscape. The owner and manager of the building, Globalworth, is writing a new chapter thanks to the ongoing reconstruction. The metamorphosis and rich history of Renoma inspired the artist, Łukasz Kuleta, to present the iconic building in an innovative way. As a result of cooperation with Globalworth, the illustrator undertook to create a collage with Renoma in the main role.
The opportunity to act independently and transform an individual point of view about Renoma into a collage made the young artist, Łukasz Kuleta, undertake to redefine Renoma in a very individual way. In the course of his work, the collage artist discovered many aspects, both architectural and historical, related to this place, which were new to him and at the same time stimulated his creativity.
Łukasz Kuleta has been creating artistic collages since 2020 and building his own personal brand: W Wirażu Collage. His works could be seen, among others, in the Polish and British editions of Elle Decoration, outdoor campaigns of the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw and the Jabłonki album, created in cooperation with KUKBUK. The artist also creates collages for Polish brands that decorate packaging or thank you postcards. In his collages, Kuleta refers to botany and nature and emphasizes the beauty of the human body. He attaches great importance to the geometry and symmetry of his works. The artist’s illustrations take the viewer to unsaid spaces and unknown dimensions.
The reputation regains its former glory
At the end of March 2022, the first part of the rebuilt part of Renoma was put into use – the northern atrium with the entrance area from the side of ul. Świdnicka. The original layout of the twin courtyards that were originally there was recreated. Both atriums are decorated with white and gray marble from Portugal and Turkey, gilded sculptures of famous heads, modeled on those on the facade, as well as huge chandeliers, whose shape refers to pre-war art deco originals. The designer of the reconstruction is the renowned Wrocław architect Zbigniew Maćków and his studio.
As a result of the metamorphosis, the investor will make available Pedet – a new gastronomic and cultural zone inspired by the idea of a food hall. It will be a combination of the unique atmosphere of a historic place and unique gastronomic concepts. Renoma will also offer nearly 35,000. sq m modern office space. Future office users will have at their disposal, among others: charging stations for cars and electric scooters, which will also be made available to guests and customers, extensive bicycle infrastructure with changing rooms, showers and racks, as well as carsharing services. Tenants will also receive a dedicated Globalworth application, thanks to which their employees will benefit from contactless access to the office, call elevators via smartphone, open the barrier to the parking lot, or reserve a conference room or parking space. Its reputation is also environmentally friendly – the facility boasts a BREEAM certificate at the Excellent level, is powered by 100% green energy and has the WELL Health & Safety 2022 certificate.
Renoma is one of the most recognizable buildings in Wrocław and an icon of modernist architecture. The facility was opened in 1930 under the original name Wertheim Department Store, and its designer was Berlin architect Hermann Dernburg. The building’s facades were decorated with sculptures of people’s heads from different parts of the world, which are still existing today, symbolizing not only the international origin of the goods offered, but above all, cultural diversity and openness to other people. Destroyed as a result of war, the Wertheim Department Store was partially rebuilt and opened in 1948 as Powszechny Department Store, and all its floors were put into use only in 1985. It was then that the building took on its current name, selected in a competition by the inhabitants of Wrocław. In 2009, Renoma was rebuilt and expanded according to the design of the Wrocław architect Zbigniew Maćkow. There are over 120 shops and service points on the lower floors, while the upper floors are occupied by offices and a restaurant. Currently, the building is undergoing another metamorphosis, as a result of which the pre-war architecture of the courtyards will be restored and it will also gain new functions. Renoma is one of three office and retail projects in the Globalworth Poland portfolio, next to Hala Koszyki in Warsaw and Supersam in Katowice.
